# Don’t Let Your Smartphone Dominate Your Life: A Personal Take

Written on

Chapter 1: The Chaos of Modern Life

We inhabit a bewildering world, don't we? While many seek the spotlight, I find myself at odds with this desire for attention. Personally, I shy away from it, as attention often brings along a whirlwind of chaos and stress. Having navigated through tumultuous times, I now prioritize tranquility over turmoil.

My smartphone frequently tries to outsmart me. I engage in daily dialogues with it, humorously scolding it for its antics. It often responds with a busy screen, but I remain unfazed, channeling my inner Eminem by dismissing its attempts to control me.

This device doesn’t dictate my existence. As I wrestle with editing my third book, I feel the pressure mounting. Each revision feels akin to a bride’s quest for the ideal wedding gown. I constantly tweak words, questioning whether they convey the right message. The hours spent refining my work can drain my mental energy, steering me away from my smartphone and other gadgets.

In moments of quiet, I often wish for the resources to outsource my editing tasks. However, I’ve grown to view editing as a cherished companion. I’ve honed a keen eye for spotting errors in my past works—not major blunders, but mostly formatting issues. Recently, I discovered a mistake in my second poetry collection; rather than feeling frustrated, I congratulated myself for catching it.

Learning through mistakes is essential, isn't it?

So, when my smartphone seeks my attention, I firmly tell it to quiet down—much like my ex-husband. We both must learn to coexist peacefully, especially since it rests beside me at night. I silence it, allowing only calls from my parents for emergencies, as they are just one floor above me.

Now, with my television upgraded to an Android-friendly binge-watching setup, I find myself wanting to impart the same message: Keep your distractions to yourself. We must safeguard our sanity by creating personal space to enjoy "me time." Yet, I won’t deny my excitement for indulging in my favorite shows and movies. Until now, I’ve been tough on my iPad, which also deserves a break.

In essence, I believe we should not allow anyone to dictate our lives—except for our pets, of course. Regardless of public opinion, pets are the real treasures in our lives. My adorable companions expect little from us but give back so much in return. I dream of sharing countless movie nights with my cat and dog. As I grow older, I am learning to appreciate the genuine aspects of life.

Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts. May sanity reign supreme in our world.
