Embracing Week 4: Midway Through the Challenge Journey

Written on

Chapter 1: Finding My Rhythm

This week felt much more balanced compared to the previous one, making it easier to achieve my daily objectives. I successfully adhered to Rule #1 (Read one chapter daily) and Rule #7 (Spend at least 15 minutes outdoors).

Reading outdoors, enjoying the fresh air

I wrapped up reading "Lost Connections" by Johann Hari, which offered valuable insights into the root causes of depression and anxiety. The book challenges common misconceptions and presents scientific perspectives on these issues.

Additionally, I began "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk, MD. This title has been on my radar for a while, and the first chapter was especially impactful, stirring up a lot of emotions. I plan to approach this one gradually.

I spent plenty of time relaxing in my hammock this week, enjoying the quiet of the evenings. A nest of eggs on our porch hatched, and I took joy in observing the parent birds feeding their young.

Section 1.1: Writing Progress

Following Rules #2 (Work on my manuscript), #6 (Write a Medium article), and #7 (Spend 8 minutes cleaning communal spaces), I had a productive meeting with my virtual writing group. Their feedback, coupled with discussions with my wife, inspired me to make significant revisions to my book.

I also managed to produce several articles for Medium. Since I often wrote on my tablet at night, I drafted pieces late and edited them first thing in the morning before publishing.

Each day, I dedicated time to tidying up my home and yard, which has led to noticeable improvements. This effort even made its way into one of my articles.

Subsection 1.1.1: Fitness and Wellness Journey

Practicing yoga for mental and physical health

In line with Rules #4 (Daily workout), #3 (Drink 80 ounces of water), and #5 (Journal 8 things I’m grateful for), I focused on yoga and exercises to strengthen my legs and feet. Inspired by "The Body Keeps the Score," I incorporated yoga sessions aimed at releasing stored tension and trauma.

One day, I fell short on my water intake, which led to a surprising realization about my hydration habits. I'm working to avoid guzzling water at the end of the day to prevent nighttime interruptions.

Highlights from my gratitude journal this week included:

  • Rediscovering "Study with Me" videos
  • Trying a new downtown restaurant
  • Finding a tech item I thought was lost
  • Stumbling down the stairs but escaping serious injury

Section 1.2: Anticipating the Week Ahead

As I look ahead, the upcoming week promises to be busy in terms of work, but I remain hopeful for fruitful outcomes.

Chapter 2: Video Insights and Reflections

The first video, "Week 4 Recap - A Tale in the Desert - Tale 8 (ATitD 8)," provides a thorough overview of the week’s events and personal progress, further enriching my reflections.

The second video, "College Football Week 4 RECAP & Reaction," captures the excitement and highlights of the week, offering additional context to my experiences.
