Chapter 1: The Moment of Doubt

At the age of 30, I faced a moment of unexpected fatigue. It felt premature, as if I had ten more years of vigor ahead of me. In that moment, I questioned everything I believed in but took a deep breath and pressed on. This week, my target was 46 pushups, but I nearly faltered at 40. Yet, a thought struck me — just six more to reach my goal, and I might not have another chance like this today.

This lesson extends beyond just a physical challenge.

What aspirations are you pursuing? Are you feeling drained? Contemplating giving up?

Don't throw in the towel! You may be closer than you think, possibly just three feet from success. So how can you keep moving forward when you’re feeling depleted? Here are three mindsets to sustain your motivation:

Section 1.1: Take a Moment at the Peak

During my pushup routine, I allow myself a brief three-second pause at the peak of each set. My arms are straight, bearing the weight with ease, allowing me to catch my breath. It’s essential to monitor your energy levels, especially when you’re racing toward your dreams. Before running out of steam, find a moment to pause and acknowledge a small achievement. For instance, if you wake up early to tackle online classes, finish a module, and then indulge in a longer sleep the next day. Recharge, even if just for a day.

However, ensure you don’t end on a low note, as that can make it harder to regain your momentum.

Section 1.2: Embrace the Challenge

Cultivate the belief that quitting poses the greatest risk. Failure is an acceptable part of the journey — it's a temporary setback that refines you rather than defines you. But giving up? That leaves a lasting mark on your spirit. I gave up on Little League all-stars after just one practice because my inner critic told me I wasn’t cut out for it. That moment, 43 years ago, is still fresh in my memory.

Chapter 2: Commit to Your Dreams

If a crisis arose, you wouldn't stop to check your notifications.

Your dreams deserve that level of commitment. Fight tirelessly for them.

Section 2.2: Perseverance is Key

Never give up, and don’t rely on anyone else to rescue you. This is your journey, and it’s up to you to keep pushing forward. Celebrate small victories, learn from setbacks, but never label yourself a quitter. Protect your dreams and nurture them into something truly remarkable.

As a personal achievement, I pushed through and completed six more pushups, eventually reaching 50 in a subsequent set.
