“Dao” represents the fundamental essence of existence, the guiding principles of reality, while “Shu” pertains to superficial methods, strategies, and techniques. When we excessively chase after the allure of “Shu” and neglect the deeper significance of “Dao,” it’s akin to the blind men describing an elephant — we only perceive a fraction of the whole and miss the complete picture.

As the saying goes, “All changes stem from their origin.” In this dynamic world, all “Shu” are merely fleeting and temporary, while the “Dao” remains constant and eternal. Yet, we often become mesmerized by the surface-level distractions and lose sight of the deeper truths and principles.

However, the current reality is challenging. The market is saturated with courses and literature on various concepts, techniques, and practical tools. While these resources may appear beneficial, they often only skim the surface and fail to engage with the core of the matter. Moreover, some so-called “success” and “motivational” studies can be detrimental, leading to deeper confusion after an initial burst of enthusiasm.

But why are we so easily swayed by these distractions? The answer may lie in our lack of awareness and control over our desires and greed. We yearn for quick success, instant wealth, and shortcuts to achieving our dreams. We often expect to gain rewards with little effort, fantasizing about achieving greatness with minimal work. We seek high returns with low investments, looking for a single decisive move to triumph over challenges. Obsessed with the advice and success stories of accomplished individuals, we forget that their achievements are often built on countless failures and hardships. The pursuit of shortcuts leads us to overlook the truth that genuine success demands time and dedication.

True Wisdom versus Superficiality

Wise individuals are often labeled “fools.” They do not chase after superficial elegance or techniques; instead, they diligently work and accumulate knowledge. They grasp the principle that “the fish cannot leave the deep water,” understanding that only by comprehending the essence of things can they discern the truth among the myriad forms. They prioritize long-term stability and development over momentary fame and success.

As Laozi wisely stated, “The great Dao is simple.” The true “Dao” is often the most straightforward and unembellished. It requires no complex language or intricate techniques; it simply calls for heartfelt comprehension. Only by understanding the depth and essence of the “Dao” can we liberate ourselves from the entanglements of misleading schemes and discover our path to true success.
