For 29 years, I was largely unaware of what a belief system truly entailed or how to connect with my inner self. My mental health struggles were often dismissed, and I was led to believe that my feelings were unfounded or even dismissed as madness. This perception held me back from seeking help or gaining a deeper understanding of myself. Everything changed when I learned I was going to become a father.

Most individuals experience a pivotal moment that ignites personal growth. For me, that revelation served as the catalyst. I yearned to improve myself, aspire to normalcy, and ultimately make a change in my life.

The journey began with seeking out a therapist to help illuminate my internal landscape. Her first question was, “Can you tell me about yourself?” This inquiry prompted profound reflection. She then asked, “What beliefs do you hold about this situation?” I candidly replied, “I have faith in both God and the Universe.”

This interaction helped me unravel my belief system, which had been shaped by others rather than developed through my own experiences. Beliefs operate like habits, often executed unconsciously. For instance, I had internalized the belief that I was mentally unwell, accepting this narrative without questioning its validity. However, the truth is that I am inherently unique.

After pinpointing your beliefs, take time to outline your values and habits that align with your belief system. Though this is a lifelong endeavor, each step reinforces our ability to remain true to ourselves despite external pressures.

By consistently affirming our values and strengths, we safeguard against negative beliefs imposed by others. This internal affirmation not only protects us but empowers us to live authentically, aligned with our true purpose. Embracing our intrinsic worth has the potential to transform our lives and inspire others to recognize their own value.
